The Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team brings together scientists and managers from the United States Geological Survey, the National Park Service, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and several state agencies and Tribal agencies to monitor and research the grizzly bears that call the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (GYE) their home.
The Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team has been bringing scientists and managers together since 1973, though the long-term dataset that’s still managed today began in 1975. This year marks the dataset’s 50th anniversary. It is the foundation for understanding how the grizzlies of the GYE live, move, and adapt. With each GPS collar the body of knowledge is widened.
Yellowstone National Park shared a glimpse into the group’s management of these animals, exploring how they’re captured, how they’re collared, and how the data is collected.
