Launched in 2000 to address traffic and parking problems, protect vegetation, and restore tranquility to Zion Canyon, The Zion Canyon Shuttle System marked a milestone this week when they hit 100 million boardings.

When the shuttle system launched at the turn of millennium, Zion National Park was seeing 2.4 million annual visitors annually but that number has steadily risen over the ensuing decades with close to 5 million visitors in 2024. In September 2024 Zion National Park became the first National Park to transition its entire shuttle fleet to zero-emission electric vehicles. The park’s new fleet of 26 battery-electric buses and 27 charging stations was funded in large part to a $33 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Zion gifted the 100 millionth rider with a commemorative t-shirt and a gift bag provided by the Zion National Park Forever Project.
