Technical rescue crews with the Phoenix Fire Department were dispatched this morning for reports of an injured hiker around the Echo Canyon Trailhead at Camelback mountain in Arizona.
The crew was dispatched around 7:30 in the morning and arrived on scene to find a male hiker who suffered a head injury. Firefighters determined that he needed to be carried of the mountain following an assessment.
The technical crews used several different techniques to carry the man down the difficult terrain, hand over hand carrying the hiker in a basket down a steep area filled with large bowlders before utilizing a rope system to carry him down a steep angle of the trail.
Finally the big wheel stretcher was used to get the man the rest of the way down. He was immediately transported in a stable condition to the hospital.
