Londonderry, Vermont — While ski season has been over for a while now in the Northeast, innovative tactics allowed one ski area to host racers this past weekend.
After it closed for the season on April 4th, Magic stored the rest of the remaining snow under a tarp (and held down by heavy objects like wood) for a Nordic skiing event.
Last Saturday, Magic Mountain hosted its annual Mountain Town Get Down event. This features local Nordic skiers who race through a course on the snow patch. According to the Chester Telegraph, the ticket proceeds go towards local youth sports teams. While it was a rainy Saturday, it sounds like the wet weather cleared out by the time the event started. The event also featured live music from The Weight Band and Jatoba, along with food and drinks at the Black Line Tavern.
The next tarped snow event in Vermont is over at Jay Peak, which will be having a lift-served terrain park as part of the Summer Solstice Sessions event on June 21st.
