Two climbers have passed away in the past few days on Mount Everest, the world’s highest mountain, as hundreds of people push for the summit.
According to ABC News, the first climber died on Wednesday while headed to the summit. 45-year-old Philipp Santiago of the Philippines had reached Camp 4 and was preparing for his final push to the summit when he passed.
The second climber, identified as Subrata Ghosh of India, died on Thursday just below the 29,032-foot summit after beginning his descent back down the mountain.
Everest.Live reports that there have been multiple dramatic long line rescues on the mountain as well over the past few days with helicopters assisting. A Czechoslovakian climber who was suffering from serious pulmonary edema was rescued from Camp 3. The second rescue was also from Camp 3.
