Recent storms have forced Shenandoah National Park to issue temporary trail and area closures due to hazardous conditions. The storm system, which impacted the entire region, produced several inches of rainfall and caused flash flooding in stream systems.

The trails and areas that are closed include Limberlost Trail, Skyland Horse Trail, North Fork Moormans River Trail, the Appalachian Connector Trail near Hawksbill Gap parking area, Dark Hollows Falls Trail, and Whiteoak Canyon Trail.

Flash flooding has washed out large sections of trails in the area and additional rainfall is in the forecast for the next several days. Not all trails have been assessed at this time and visitors should expect to see potential high water or trail damage in other sections of the park.

Visitors can receive text alerts from the national park by texting SHENALERTS to 888777, with subscribers receiving a notification by text any time there are important safety-related alerts like closures or re-openings.
