Utah’s Solitude Mountain Resort called it a wrap on daily operations for the season yesterday and held their first ever Cardboard Derby to close out the regular season in style.

Competitors in teams up to four cruised down the mountain in “boats” constructed out of cardboard and duct tape. Prizes awarded for quickest lap, best crash, and best costume/boat design.

Some folks went solo in minimally customized shipping boxes while others went all out and took cardboard craftsmanship to artistic levels. The event looked incredibly fun! Learn more about Solitude’s bonus weekends below.

Solitude’s snow coverage is holding up surprising well despite variable weather this spring and although they are closed for daily operations, they are opening back up for two bonus weekends. Here’s the scoop:

Bonus Weekends

After daily operations finish, we are looking to open two additional weekends, keeping you skiing and riding until Memorial Day. If we reach the holiday, it will be one of the latest closing dates in Solitude history!

First Bonus Weekend
Friday, May 16 — Sunday, May 18

Second Bonus Weekend
Friday, May 23 — Monday, May 26

Join us as we spin Apex Express and Link from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Moonbeam Express will not be open as we perform summer maintenance and prep trails for Solitude Bike Park.
