Lincoln, New Hampshire — While the 2024-25 season just concluded at Loon Mountain, work is already underway on its next big project.

This week, Loon Mountain Resort shared a video of the work they’ve been doing on their snowmaking infrastructure. Loon is replacing the snowmaking infrastructure from the 1980s on North Peak with a new water feed line and a new valve house.

This will help Loon increase snowmaking production in the North Peak terrain pod. Previously, Loon was only able to make snow on one trail in the summit area of North Peak at a time. These changes will allow them to make snow on two trails on the top of North Peak. Loon also plans to put snowmaking on the other side of the Sunset trail, with guns currently being situated on skier’s right.

Loon’s President & General Manager, Brian Norton, discussed these changes last month on New England Ski Journal’s Basecamp Podcast, where he discussed what’s on tap for this offseason (around the forty-minute mark).

This move follows another major snowmaking investment last year, which saw over 100 new snowmaking hydrants on various trails. They also added of snowmaking on two trails that are part of the Timbertown expansion: Upper Stinger and Lower Stinger.

Other improvements during the 2020s so far include the new Kanc8 bubble chairlift, the new Seven Brothers high-speed quad chairlift, the Timbertown terrain expansion, and the addition of a patio area at the Octagon Lodge. A new pulse gondola that will connect the Riverwalk Resort to South Peak is also planned in the future.
