Little Cottonwood Canyon hiker rescued.

A 32-year-old man is in critical condition after taking a fall in Little Cottonwood Canyon Sunday afternoon and getting stuck in an inverted position for hours.

Details are sparse but around 1:00pm the hiker fell and managed to get his leg stuck in some rocks near Lizard Head Wall where was left upside down for hours, unable to self-rescue or apparently call for help. The man was found by people who called for rescue.

A search and rescue team was dispatched and extracted the injured hiker around 4:00pm. He was then transported via helicopter to a hospital where he remains in critical condition.

The rescue was conducted through a joint effort between The Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue and Unified Fire Authority. This is a developing story and we will be sure to update as more information becomes available.
