Voyageurs National Park in Minnesota is spread across 218,000 acres of lakes, forests, and streams. It’s named after the French-Canadian Voyageurs that spent time navigating the waters. Today, April 8, 2025, Voyageurs is celebrating its 50th birthday.

“Voyageurs National Park has been a sanctuary of natural beauty, outdoor recreation, and cultural heritage since its establishment in 1975. In 2025, we will proudly celebrate 50 years of protecting and preserving this wild northern landscape for future generations.

To celebrate the anniversary, Voyageurs is hosting a variety of events throughout the year, including a scavenger hunt beginning on May 24th, the grand opening of the Crane Lake Visitor Center on June 6th, and a star party between August 29th and 30th. For today, April 8, Voyageurs is hosting an in-person open house at the park headquarters at 360 MN-11, International Falls, MN 56649.

The open house runs from 3pm-6pm, with guests having the opportunity to take an exclusive look at historical objects, photographs, and stories that have shaped the park over the past 50 years. Catherine Crawford, the collections manager, will be there to connect with visitors, and birthday cake will be involved.
