The snowboarder who passed away at Sugarloaf Mountain on Saturday, April 5, was 63-year-old Kendall Willard of nearby Kingfield.
According to Maine’s Total Coverage, Willard was attempting to retrieve something he had dropped from the chairlift when he wound up on a closed trail. Carrabassett Valley Police Chief Mark Lopez explained that the man lost his footing on the icy trail while walking and slid into a clump of trees.
Details were initially sparse and Sugarloaf Mountain held off on releasing information out of sympathy for the family and friends of the victim. The accident occurred around 9am on Saturday.
