Snowshoe, West Virginia — After a snowy season at West Virginia’s largest ski resort, a major project for next winter is now underway.

Yesterday, Snowshoe Mountain Resort broke ground on a new skier services facility. The new Shavers Center will serve as “the home of Snowshoe’s Ski & Ride School, Pre-Ski, and Outdoor Adventure Tours.” There will be plenty of space for guests to hang out, with an extensive outdoor deck with chairs and firepits and indoor areas for people to dine and/or take a breather. Snowshoe plans to open the building in mid-December 2025.
The old Shavers Center was a staple at Snowshoe for almost five decades before being closed and demolished in 2022.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have the project kicked off. The new Shavers Center is going to be an incredible improvement to our guest experience here on the mountain,” said Patti Duncane, the President & COO of Snowshoe Mountain Resort. “The original Shavers Center was such an integral part of the mountain and so many guests and employees have stories and fond memories from that place. We just celebrated our 50th anniversary this past winter, and now were looking forward to completing this new facility and making more beautiful memories in the new Shavers Center for the next 50 years and beyond.”

Snowshoe Mountain Resort features 61 trails, 14 lifts, and a maximum vertical drop of 1500 feet. The 2024-25 season started for them on December 5th and ended on March 23rd. Despite this early ending, it was the snowiest one in years for Snowshoe, with 187 inches of natural snow. Other recent projects include the replacement of the Powder Monkey chairlift, and the addition of a rope tow in the terrain park this past winter.
