Canadian ski resort responds to US tariffs with deep discounts

A ski resort in Banff, Canada has scheduled as special event for the day U.S. tariffs are scheduled to go into effect.

On April 2nd skiers and snowboarders can purchase lift tickets to Mt. Norquay for $18.67 (an homage to Canada’s formation in 1867) in what they are calling “Canadian Proud Ski Day.” A day pass to Mt. Norquay usually costs $118 for adults so this offer is an 84% discount.

Mt. Norquay has not made any direct references to this deep discount’s relation to the new tariffs but it is not difficult to make the connection. Skiers and snowboarders are encouraged to wear red and white and “transform Norquay into a blizzard of Canadian Spirit!”:

“On April 2nd, 2025 join us for a distinctly Canadian celebration. Canadians will pay just $18.67 for a lift ticket, celebrating Norquay’s 99-year heritage as a proudly Canadian owned and operated ski hill. Come and learn more about Norquay’s future and show your support for one of Canada’s legendary ski areas. Skiers and boarders are encouraged to come decked out in red and white and transform Norquay into a blizzard of Canadian Spirit!” -Mt. Norquay
