There are a ton of things to consider when booking a ski trip, from snow quality to resort nightlife. Size is not always the most important thing to consider, as just because a resort is large doesn’t mean it will be the right fit for you. But having a lot off terrain to explore is often a positive. There are plenty of very large ski resorts around Colorado, all of which offer their own positives and negatives. These are the top five largest.
5. Winter Park Resort – 3,081 Acres
Winter Park Resort offers 3,081 acres of skiable terrain across two distinct mountains and multiple different zones, split up as 8% beginner, 18% intermediate, 19% advanced, 52% most difficult, and 3% expert only.
4. Keystone Resort – 3,149 Acres
Keystone Resort offers 3,149 acres across 140 trails, split up as 12% beginner, 39% intermediate, and 49% advanced. The resort has 21 lifts, and its longest trail runs for 3.5 miles.
3. Snowmass – 3,342 Acres
Snowmass, one of the four mountains that make up Aspen Snowmass, offers 3,342 acres of skiable terrain when completely open. The area provides 20 total lifts to access plenty of different trails ranging from beginner to expert only.
2. Steamboat – 3,741 Acres
Steamboat’s 3,741 acres provide 181 named runs and 23 total lifts. Snowmaking spreads to 375 acres on the mountain, while the area sees an average of 314 inches of natural snowfall every year. The resort’s longest run, Why Not, is over three miles long.
1. Vail – 5,317 Acres
With 5,317 acres of skiable terrain, Vail is by far the largest ski area in the state of Colorado. It offers 32 lifts and 278 trails, 53% of which are considered advanced terrain. The longest run on the mountain, Riva Ridge, is around four miles long.
