BASE Jumper pries open gondola door.

In February 2014, BASE jumper Graham Dickinson solidified his name in infamy for allegedly jumping from Whistler Blackcomb‘s Peak 2 Peak Gondola. The gondola doors were pried open and the jumper was able to work his way out of the cabin with the alleged help of Ontario native Kathleen Adams.

Whistler Blackcomb claimed the duo did over $10,000 worth of damage, and Adams faced charges of mischief over $5,000 and obstruction of justice after allegedly providing misleading statements to police. She was arrested at her place of work, the Longhorn Saloon and Grill in Whistler, in 2014.

Dickinson was co-accused alongside Adams, but he managed to avoid capture by fleeing Canada. It’s not clear if he ever returned to the country but he never saw a day a court. Sadly in 2017, Dickinson died in a tragic wingsuit accident in China. He was consistently on the cutting edge of proximity wingsuit flying, pushing the boundaries of what was possible in the sport.

Dickinson’s 2014 jump from the Peak 2 Peak Gondola honored the legendary Shane McConkey‘s jump from the same point back in 2008, as Dickinson shouts “that’s for you McConkey” as he flies through the air. However McConkey’s jump was done as an official event in partnership with the resort and Red Bull and no property was damaged.
