French freeskiing legend Candide Thovex has a new feather in his cap as La Clusaz, his home ski resort, named a trail after him which prompted an uncharacteristic response from the enigmatic skier. Candide is famous for letting his skiing speak for itself but he felt compelled to issue a statement following the honor.
“I learned to ski at Balme and Balme taught me everything. This mountain shaped my skiing. I am honored to see part of Balme bear my name and I want to thank La Clusaz for this recognition.”
Candide grew up skiing this run and he dug into his archives and posted the following video of this early days at La Cluzaz. Incredible to see a young Candide ripping around on straight skis doing spread eagles in a powder suit.
Congratulations to Candide!
