A massive, near 40-foot deep avalanche blocked Idaho’s SH-21 between Grandjean and Banner Summit on Sunday, February 9. The roadway is currently closed from milepost 93.7 to 105.5.

According to the Idaho Transportation Department, crews have been working to clear the slide, which reaches about 40 feet deep along the road.

We do not close highways without reason, and this slide is a perfect example.” – Idaho Transportation Department

The statement initially explained that crews were working to reopen the road Monday afternoon or on Tuesday. In an update posted this morning, the department states that conditions will be reassessed at 7am on Tuesday morning. In the meantime, the Idaho Transportation Department asks that you check your route before traveling at 511.idaho.gov.
