Sad news out of Utah where a 37-year-old snowmobiler from Evanston, WY has passed away in an avalanche in the Monte Cristo Area.
According to the Utah Avalanche Center, who shared the news to their X (formerly Twitter) account, the man passed in an incident near the Rich and Cache County line on Monday, February 7. The man’s friend called for help after being unable to locate him in the burial, sparking a multi-agency response.
Rich County Search and Rescue, in addition to Cache County, Weber County, Life Flight, Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter, Powder Mountain K-9, and a Black Hawk helicopter provided by the Diesel Brothers, were dispatched to the scene at approximately 3:03pm on Monday.
The Rich County Sheriff’s Office reports that, as the snow was quite deep in the area of the avalanche, the search took nearly four hours to locate the victim. The man was eventually found at around 6:21pm. Staff from the Utah Avalanche Center will conduct a further inspection of the sight throughout the day today.
