Ski ballet is a bit of a lost art. Combining spins, flips, and jumps into a short routine, freestyle skiers would put on a show like little that exists today. Sure, it’s not that different from figure skating, but something about it being on skis makes it so much better (though I may be a bit biased in this one).
Fortunately there are still people out there keeping ski ballet alive, learning the tricks and passing on the vital knowledge to create beautiful turns on the mountain. One of those people is Olympic gold medalist and ski legend Jonny Moseley, who shared a tutorial he filmed at Palisades Tahoe on a few ski ballet tricks, including the “tin man” and the “tip vault”.
I don’t know about you, but I’ll be practicing a few of these tricks while on the mountain. The ability to whip out something like this while skiing with your less-than-talented friends, just blowing their minds with your incredibly ski ballet abilities? I can’t even begin to imagine how awesome that would feel.
