The Friends of New River Gorge National Park and Preserve (FNRGNPP) and the Crime Stoppers of West Virginia have joined forces to provide a cash reward to those who supply information that leads to the solving of a spray paint vandalism that occurred in New River Gorge National Park and Preserve.
According to the National Park Service, the incident in the Long Point Trail area was first reported on the morning of December 21, 2024, with National Park Service law enforcement responding and discovering around ten trees and multiple rucks spray painted, some with markings and other with words.
“Rangers stated that, while some of the language drew question of a possible suicide, there was nothing to substantiate that anything beyond vandalism had occurred.” – National Park Service
A few tips have come in to the hotline and directly to the park, but nothing has yet led to an arrest. In response, the FNRGNPP has donated $500 to the incentive pool, with the Crime Stoppers of West Virginia already providing $500 and the total reward now reaching $1,000.
“We join the public in their outrage over this. Long Point is one of iconic trails of the park, and while anything such as this that occurs in any public space is awful, this one really hurts. Long Point is loved by so many.” – Teddy Queen, board member of the FNRGNPP.
Any tips replated to the incident should be reported to crime Stoppers of WV at (304) 255-7867 or on their website at crimestopperswv.com. All tips are considered anonymous.
