Otis, Massachusetts — The big conglomerates make it seem like it’s not possible, but there is still affordable skiing and riding out there.

Down in the southern Berkshires of Massachusetts, Otis Ridge has been a community staple since opening in 1946. The ski area just received 6 inches of snow from a storm Sunday evening, making for a softer snowpack. If you want to experience this historic ski area, there’s one way to affordably to shred there.

For night skiing, which is offered Wednesday-Sunday, lift tickets are only $25. This is far below many other ski areas that offer night skiing in New England. The most expensive adult full-day lift ticket goes for $55 on weekends and holidays, which isn’t too bad, all things considered in today’s ski industry. Tickets for weekdays (Wednesday-Friday) are only $30.

While Otis Ridge is not the most hard-core ski area on the planet, not every mountain needs to be.
