Skiing in Alaska.
Skiing in Alaska.

Takuma Oike and Shikaichi Ueki are both top notch freeride skiers out of Japan, both founding a top freeride competition in their home country. They’ve both helped and continue to help to grow the sport of freeride skiing in Japan.

They recently traveled to the epic mountains of Alaska to push their limits and pump up their heart rates, capturing it in Ride Free, a short filmed produced with the support of Arc’teryx, Patagonia, Anon, Hestra, Sweet protection, and Board butter glide wax.

Takuma Oike is the founder of the Chanmero Freeride, a competition held in four rounds across Hakuba and Toyama. The first round, the Mortar and Pestle Open, will take place on January 26.

Shikaichi Ueki is the founder of the Japan Freeride Open, a freeride event set to take place on February 8 and February 9, with a junior competition and freeride session on the first day and an open competition on the second day.
