Bend, Oregon — The Summit Express chairlift at Mt. Bachelor is not easy to operate. Due to the detachable high-speed chairlift being above treeline, it’s subject to the elements.
This week, Mt. Bachelor shared a variety of photos showcasing the rime ice that has accumulated due to recent storms. Work has begun on de-icing the lift towers , which is why the Summit chairlift has been closed for a couple of days. Work crews use tools like aluminum hammers to break the ice off. If you want to ride this chairlift, the most likely time to do so is in the springtime.
Bachelor has had an excellent start to the season. The Oregon ski resort has received 240 inches of snowfall so far this ski season and a base depth of 104″.
In terms of its future owner, that hasn’t been resolved, although Mount Bachelor Community Inc. continues its push to bring it back to local hands.
