Mount Desert Island Search and Rescue was called to assist in the carry out of an injured hiker in Acadia National Park on New Year’s Eve.

According to a social media post, the injured hiker was on Gorham Mountain. Fortunately temperatures were mild and only a few patches of ice were found on the trail.

Gorham Mountain is typically accessed by the Gorham Mountain Loop, taking visitors up and down on a 3.5 mile trail. It does have a few sections that require scrambling over rocks and several portions of uneven footing.

Mount Desert Island Search and Rescue is a non-profit, all volunteer service organization providing search and rescue assistance on Mount Desert Island and the surrounding areas. The group, established in 1982, accepts donations to help fund training and equipment maintenance. You can donate here if interested.
