Mount Desert Island Search and Rescue was called to assist in the carry out of an injured hiker in Acadia National Park on New Year’s Eve.
According to a social media post, the injured hiker was on Gorham Mountain. Fortunately temperatures were mild and only a few patches of ice were found on the trail.
Gorham Mountain is typically accessed by the Gorham Mountain Loop, taking visitors up and down on a 3.5 mile trail. It does have a few sections that require scrambling over rocks and several portions of uneven footing.
Mount Desert Island Search and Rescue is a non-profit, all volunteer service organization providing search and rescue assistance on Mount Desert Island and the surrounding areas.
