Every holiday season there are reports of wildlife getting stuck in Christmas decorations and its up to us to avoid any unfortunate tangles. The folks from Colorado Parks & Wildlife recently addressed the issue with a PSA detailing preventative measures including attaching lights firmly and at least 8 feet off the ground.
The although the following video of a moose showing up at a front door with a strand of Christmas lights hanging off its head had a positive outcome, incidents like this are easily avoidable if you decorate responsibly.

COLORADO PARKS & WILDLIFE HOLIDAY DECORATIONS PSA:
Colorado Parks and Wildlife offices have received increased calls regarding antlered deer tangled in holiday decorations and yard equipment.
- Firmly attach lights to structures.
- String lights at least 8 feet off the ground.
- Avoid draping lights loose on top of shrubbery or wrapping lights around the trunks of trees, which bucks often rub their antlers against to sharpen them during the mating season.
- Avoid stringing lights or other decorations between trees and bushes where deer can pass through and catch on their antlers.
