New Hartford, Connecticut — It’s time to blare Brass Bonanza, because a new era has begun at Ski Sundown in Connecticut.
On Saturday, November 14th, Ski Sundown opened up for the season. The Connecticut ski resort opened up with eleven trails and five lifts. Among those lifts was the Sundown Quad, which passed its load test this month.
This past offseason, the Exhibition chairlift was replaced by a new Skytrac fixed-grip quad chairlift. This new lift has ninety chairs, a loading conveyer, a length of 1999 feet, and a carrying capacity of 2400 people per hour. It has a ride time of 4.5 minutes, a shorter ride time compared to the old Exhibition lift. The Exhibition Quad goes 450 feet per minute, which is faster than its predecessor’s 400 feet per minute.
Ski Sundown is one of several Connecticut ski areas that recently opened. Powder Ridge was the first to open on November 29th, Mohawk Mountain opened up on December 6th, and Mt. Southington opened on December 7th.
