Upper Peninsula, Michigan – One of the best ski resorts for glade skiing is growing its already comprehensive tree skiing network.
This past summer, Mount Bohemia announced that they’re working on adding four new glades for this winter. These glades will start at the Mordor trail and then go 90 degrees east into a valley. This area will be known as the Far East. The run lengths and snow quality will be similar to the glades over at Middle Earth. With them being the furthest trails to the east, they’ll maintain fresh powder longer and thus have great snow conditions. These glades will go through rocky gorges and valleys. The glades end at the bottom of the road, where Bohemia’s busses arrive every five minutes to pick skiers and riders up.
We spoke with trail designer Peter Doyle who had this to say about the new terrain:
“It is mixture of steep headwalls and mellow gladed terrain that adds an additional 20 acres to the east side of the property. Due to its remoteness, it should be longest lasting power stashes on the mountain.”
The Far east is just one of five inbounds backcountry sections at Bohemia. Bohemia is all about exploring and adventure. There are very few ski resorts in North America that have more inbounds acres of glades than Bohemia. It is almost impossible to explore all the gladed terrain in one weekend trip. To really understand how expansive Bohemia is, the new glades of the Far East will provide skiers adventure in the woods over 2 miles away from the base area. Future expansion of the Far East will include four more glades as they expand further east into the forest.
