Ski ballet.
Ski ballet.

Freestyle skiing used to be cool. Instead of dudes riding rails and hitting massive jumps, we had the wonderful competition of ski ballet. These guys didn’t need kickers to get air, they just used their poles, doing flips from near flat ground. It wasn’t just about getting the most air, it was about rhythm and moving to the music. Don’t get me wrong, freestyle skiing is sweet, but ski ballet was beautiful.

Retired professional skier Antti Inberg of Finland shared this remarkable clip from what he believes was the 1998 Meiringer-Hasliberg World Cup, where he got 3rd place overall in the Acro. Pretty incredible flashback.

Inberg shared the clip ahead of the MGG Winter Waltz: A Ski Ballet Extravaganza, set to go down on March 1, 2025, in Verbier. The ski ballet demonstration event promises to bring Winter Olympians and World Champions together for an epic ski ballet party.
