Idaho Tamarack Resort is one of the fastest-growing ski resorts in the Northwest. Slowly recovering from its closure during the Great Recession, Tamarack Resort has been building up its offerings in recent years, including completing its village, putting in a marina at nearby Lake Cascade, finishing off its mid-mountain lodge, and opening its golf course.

As a moderately sized ski resort in one of the fastest-growing states in the country, Tamarack Resort is considering its future.

This week, Tamarack Resort announced that it has acquired another 500 acres of land, which it will use to further develop its community. With the acquisition of 300 acres of land in 2019 that was previously non-contiguous with the other part of Tamarack’s property, this will allow Tamarack to develop an additional 800 acres of land. With this land, they plan to develop 700 residential units, which will eventually be serviced by skiable terrain and lifts.

“This acquisition underscores Tamarack’s commitment to completing its master development plan for America’s only ski, golf, and lake resort and becoming the nation’s premier four-season resort,” said Scott Turlington, President of Tamarack Resort.

According to BoiseDev, this 500-acre parcel was part of Tamarack’s growth plans when it became a ski resort in the 2000s. However, the Tamarack Homeowners Association surrendered the land to the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality in 2018 over a $11.6 million debt from an unpaid bond used to produce sewer infrastructure.

In addition, Tamarack’s terrain expansion plan was recently modified. Recently, Tamrack applied for a 2400-acre special use permit in the Boise and Payette National Forests. Since introducing their master development plan, they’ve reduced their expansion plans, eliminating a couple of terrain pods and lifts.

Here’s the original 2021 master plan map for reference. A gondola that would have given access to Lone Tree Peak, along with the terrain around it, has been removed. However, various terrain expansions remain. The South Base Area, around this new development zone, would include two new lifts and various easy/intermediate trails.

All of this is long-term thinking by Tamarack, but it’s something to get excited about.
