The NEW Scarpa TX Pro is making some waves in the telemark community. It’s the first new telemark boot from the company in a decent bit, pushing innovation in a discipline that doesn’t as much attention as it deserves.
Unfortunately I’m not a telemark skier, so I can’t pop these boots on and give a proper review. But Voile Production Manager Mark Christopherson can. This full in-depth review gives a good look at Scarpa’s newest telemark boots, highlighting the near complete positive thoughts on the boot.
Christopherson focused on several things with these boots. For one, while they aren’t quite as light as Scarpa’s Maestrale alpine touring boots, they are the lightest TX boot he’s seen, and the range of motion in touring mode is easily equivalent to a proper touring boot. The new TX Pro might be stiff over the first 10 days (as all boots are), the fore-aft feeling in the bellows winds up very comfortable when broken in while the boot stays very stiff torsionally to help produce quicker edge engagement.
His only complaint, if you could really call it that, is the weight in the booster strap at the top of the boot. He points out that previous iterations did not feature a metal buckle, leaving a bit of room for reduced weight, but he does note that this strap allows for a much tighter fit. Essentially the new Scarpa TX Pro is a hybrid telemark boot, both for the person wanting to stay on resort and for the person hoping to get into the backcountry as much as possible.
