KATMAI NATIONAL PARK, Alaska – Fat Bear Week has become an international hit, capturing thousands of votes and news coverage from around the world. We first caught wind of it back in 2018, but it’s been around for a good bit longer.
Four years longer, to be exact. Fat Bear Week got its start back in 2014, as a single day, Tuesday event. Despite Katmai National Park only having a few thousand followers that year, the event captured a great amount of attention. So it’s been expanded and it continues to this day, with 2024’s competition set to take off next week.
Brackets for Fat Bear Week will be announced on Monday, September 30, presenting us with what we hope is a collection of very large bears. Then, on October 2, the competition begins. Voting will take place between 12pm-9pm ET every day until a winner is crowned on October 8. Are you excited? Because I’m excited.
