Londonderry, Vermont — Are Goats an environmentally friendly way to mow the slopes? Magic Mountain Ski Area conducted an experiment this summer to find out.

The Vermont ski area just concluded an experiment with local farmer Aimee Braxmeier to see how goats would handle living on their grassy slopes. According to the Chester Telegraph, this deal benefited both parties. For Magic, it allows for the trail to be mowed without using carbon-emitting machines like lawnmowers and weed whackers. For Braxmeier, she’s been able to try out No Fence, a GPS app that tracks the goat’s location without needing a large fence. The goats wear collars, which allows Braxmeier to track them in case they go rogue. It sounds like the trial run went successfully, as Braxmeier just picked the goats up and moved them to their next grazing location.
