Known as “cyclors” the world’s best athletes at producing pedal power have found a home as crew on modern America’s Cup sailboats. Cyclors use stationary bike type mechanism to generate hydraulic pressure used for control sail trim, foil adjustment and various other systems on these space age watercraft.
Traditionally these functions were powered by “grinders” who used their arms wind cranks. With cyclors producing up to 50% more power than compared to arm-powered grinding, they have become the new standard in the sport.
You don’t have to be sailor to be a world class cyclor, so racing teams have been actively recruiting professional bikers to add to their crews. Join the cyclor from New York Yacht Club’s American Magic as they prepare for a race in Barcelona, Spain and learn what it takes to compete in the most prestigious regattas in the world.
