Shanghai, China – This September, an impressive new skiing facility will open in China.
The Shanghai L*SNOW Indoor Skiing Theme Resort will open to the public on September 6th. The greater than 90,000-square-meter (over 968,752 square feet) facility features terrain for various ability levels. In comparison, America’s Big SNOW American Dream is only 174,240 square feet. The snow facility has over 20 attractions, including a snow train and a zipline. There are a couple of options for lodging, including 17 ski-in/ski-out villas. The complex, which has a size of around 350,000 square meters, is also home to one indoor and one outdoor waterpark.
China’s winter sports economy is growing pretty rapidly. Partially due to hosting the 2022 Winter Olympics, new ski resorts have been popping up nationwide. The previous record holder for the world’s largest ski resort is Harbin Wanda Indoor Ski and Winter Sports Resort. Next year, another record holder for the largest indoor ski resort could be coming, with the Huafa Snow World in Shenzhen possibly taking the honors next year.
The facility is currently going through trial operations, allowing various Chinese media outlets like CGTN and International Channel Shanghai to come check it out.
In terms of my personal views on the complex, there are parts I like about it. The steep slope looks like a fun run to speed down, the new lifts look sleek, the ski-in/out villas are a neat feature, and the buildings on the mountain are a nice touch. I’m less fond of some of the tackier features, like the train going through the ski resort and the walls with the fake mountains and buildings. With all that being said, this will be a great spot for skiers and riders to learn how to shred.
I want to check out this, along with the Chinese ski resorts, someday, as the Chinese ski industry is growing rapidly.
