Spotting a wolverine in the wild would be cool, spotting a wolverine with a severed goat head in its mouth would be terrifying. This Alaskan biker caught a pretty wild clip of exactly that, a wolverine with a severed goat in its head, while out on the trails, and though it’s certainly bizarre, it does seem to be fairly explainable.
According to the Alaska Department of Fish & Game, wolverines are opportunistic eaters, so they’ll eat pretty much whatever they can find or kill. Often times this means smaller and medium-sized animals, like squirrels, hares, and birds. But it also means scavenging, and in this case it seems quite possible that the wolverine found the head, whether it was initially attached to a body or not.
Alaska Department of Fish & Game on Myths Behind Wolverines:
“Because of their great endurance, strength, and foraging behavior, wolverines have become a center of folklore. However, its fierce reputation has often been exaggerated. They are known to steal furbearers from traps and to damage cabins but contrary to stories will not attack a larger predator, like a wolf or a bear. Instead, they avoid these animals as encounters with either of these predators may be fatal to the wolverine. Wolverines will defend a food source or its territory against other wolverines or smaller predators.“
