Kiwi sailboat captain, Tom Hudson, is being heralded as a hero after saving a 14-year-old Great Pyrenees named Ivy trapped in a Manitoba river during a Trans-Canadian canoe trip.
Tom was paddling along the river near The Pas on July 29th when heard a faint sound coming from the banks he had just past. Thankfully he turned his canoe around to investigate and found a dog in distress.
“There were so many ways I could have missed her. There was a long island in the middle of the river, I went right of the island, but left made more sense, for some reason I decided to go right, and found the dog there.”
The Great Pyrenees was trapped under a log, mostly underwater and completely exhausted unable to move her hind legs. Tom jumped into action and got Ivy onto his boat and returned her to her owner.
Tom posted a series of videos to his socials documenting the rescue and transformation of Ivy and our hearts soared seeing this beautiful dog go from the pits of despair back to the safety of her loving home. Nice work Tom!
