UNITED STATES – Skiing? Snowboarding? It’s August 8 (at least at the time of writing this), what am I talking about! Some of you might dread the thought of snow right now, some of you might welcome it. I’m talking to the ones who welcome it today. Believe it or not, there are still three places in the United States right now that have open skiing and snowboarding on real snow, outside of general snowfields that you can hike to in the mountains.
Timberline Lodge, Oregon
America’s only outdoor year-round ski resort is still going strong, with Timberline Lodge‘s Palmer Snowfield holding plenty of snow for summer camps, training, and the public. While many of the lanes are reserved for the aforementioned summer camps and training, several public lanes do remain open 7am-2pm every day throughout the warmer months. Those hoping to get some summer skiing done at Timberline Lodge can do so for $105 a day.
Copper Mountain, Colorado
While Copper Mountain may not have any lift access skiing open to the public, the hike-to park in center village offers some summer skiing/snowboarding access for those willing to ride rails, pipes, and boxes. The summer hike-to park is open 10am-5pm on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, and costs $25 per person.
Big SNOW American Dream, New Jersey
Stuck on the east coast with no hope of making it to Colorado or Oregon? Fear not, there’s still on skiing, lift access snow in New Jersey! It just happens to be inside, but it’s still skiing. Big SNOW American Dream, located inside a mall, has three ski runs, a park, two carpets, one t-bar, and one chairlift. The indoor park is open from 1pm-8pm Monday-Thursday, 1pm-9pm on Fridays, 10am-9pm on Saturdays, and 10am-8pm on Sundays, and it costs $59 for a 2 hour session.
