Crafting skis at SPURart in the Austrian Alps.
Crafting skis at SPURart in the Austrian Alps.

There are a ton of ski manufacturers in the world. Wikipedia (I know, I know, your teacher told you not to trust their website) lists 41 companies, but with just a quick glance I can name several smaller businesses that aren’t on the list. Plus, there are whole host of small, custom ski companies around the world, like SPURart in the Austrian Alps. The small Austrian ski and snowboard builders were featured in an episode of Mazda Discovers (yes, it’s essentially an add for Mazda).

In the latest episode of Mazda Discovers we travel to the snowy peaks of the Austrian Alps together with filmmaker Sjoerd Wess. Traveling in the elegant Mazda CX-30, Sjoerd meets Michael Freymann and Peter Pfeifer, the masterminds behind SPURart, known for their exceptional custom ski and snowboard creations.

If you’re ever in the alps searching for a new pair of custom skis, or you’re looking to get your hands dirty, SPURart in Innsbruck does offer ski/snowboard building workshops. You’ll be guided through the building process alongside other winter sports enthusiasts, with the option to build skis, a snowboard, or a splitboard. Pretty sweet stuff.
