The layout of the 300-mile, figure-eight road system that connects Yellowstone’s five entrances and major attractions has largely the same as when engineer Major Hiram Chittenden finished it in 1905. Ongoing upkeep and improvements of the historic roadways are crucial for making the park accessible to the public.
