Waitsfield, Vermont — One year and a day after catastrophic floods rattled the state of Vermont, another batch of heavy rain caused major damage to various towns.
Roads were washed out throughout northern Vermont, leading to tricky travel conditions. While the ski areas didn’t see that level of damage, they didn’t emerge unscathed.
Mad River Glen gave an update on Thursday regarding how they fared. Route 17, which is the road leading up to Mad River Glen, took some damage from the flooding. Some of their trails and culverts saw minor damage, with the heavy water flow causing erosion. The biggest damage appeared to happen on the side of one of their buildings in the base area. However, their buildings and lifts sustained no notable damage.
Mad River Glen reopened its Base Boxlodge on Friday night for a Fish Fry special and a Lobster Roll special that was initially planned for Thursday night. However, their Saturday night musical guest had to cancel due to road conditions in Vermont.
