Yellowstone National Park Shooting

The FBI, along with National Park Service special agents, are investigating a deadly shootout that occurred at Yellowstone National Park on Thursday, July 4, 2024. The confrontation resulted in the death of an armed suspect and injury to a park ranger at Canyon Village, located south of Tower Falls in the park’s central region.

The incident began on Wednesday night and concluded the following morning. According to park officials, the injured ranger is in stable condition and has been transported to a nearby regional hospital.

As a precaution, the area around Canyon Village is currently closed to the public while the investigation is ongoing.

A statement from the park revealed that rangers responded to a report of an individual making threats with a firearm. Upon contact, an exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in the suspect’s death. The identity of the deceased individual has not been released.

The FBI is leading the investigation, with assistance from National Park Service special agents. Authorities assure there are no ongoing threats to public safety.
