Flooding in Zermatt

ZERMATT, Switzerland – Several areas throughout Switzerland, including the mountain resort of Zermatt, saw mass amounts of flooding on Friday, June 21, after a massive thunderstorm broke river banks in the area. Further east, according to the BBC, three people went missing in the town of Misox as the flooding passed through, though the body of one of the three has since been found.

Zermatt has been cut off from the rest of the world by the flooding, with trains between Visp and Zermatt suspended and the road between Täsch and Zermatt closed. 124 mm (4.88 in) of rain fell in the area throughout the storms, most of which fell in just a one hour period.
