Donner Pass, California- After a very slow start to the season, they’re now living it up in the Hotel California. A major snowstorm came through the Sierras on Saturday and Sunday, delivering monumental totals for May. At one of the key snow recording sites in California, it was the best day of the 2023-24 season.

During a 24-hour stretch from May 4th through May 5th, the UC Berkeley Central Sierra Snow Lab’s May 5th received 26.4″ of snow, the snowiest day of the 2023-24 season. This was despite the impressive totals they received during the multiple-day early March dump. The previous record-holder from this season was on March 3rd, as they received 23.8″.

The storm delivered deep results for the ski resorts still open in California. Donner Ski Ranch got a foot of snow, Mammoth received 10-12″, and Palisades Tahoe got 26″ of powder.

It’s a great reminder for skiers and riders that it’s not over until the last patch of snow melts.
