Frisco, Colorado- Copper Mountain has a new machine that gives back to those who recycle.

The Ball Corporation, known for its aluminum cups, announced that it has collaborated with Recycle Track Systems (RTS) to add a new machine at Copper Mountain Resort. The new recycling machine is situated at Jack’s Slopeside Grill.

Here’s how the reverse vending machine (RVM) works: Guests insert the Ball Aluminum cup or other aluminum bottles or cans into the machine. After inserting the aluminum, the machine scans, crushes, and sorts it. Guests then scan a QR code, which potentially leads to them winning a prize. The incentive for skiers and riders is that they can win Copper Mountain merchandise.

This new machine aims to improve Copper Mountain’s waste reduction methods. After the end of the ski season, Copper will be able to measure how much, what type, and the total mass of aluminum that was recycled. This new machine also aims to teach consumers about the benefits of using aluminum, as their Ball cups are 90% recyclable.

“At Copper Mountain Resort, we’re excited to reinforce our commitment to sustainability with the introduction of this reverse vending machine. In collaboration with partners like Ball and Recycle Track Systems, we’re revolutionizing recycling practices and engaging our community in a meaningful way,” said Jeff Grasser, who’s Copper Mountain’s Senior Resort Operations and Sustainability Manager. “Together, through initiatives like this, we aim to inspire and reward participants, fostering a collective passion for a more sustainable future.”

This machine is also in use at other sporting and event venues, as they have these machines at the Red Rocks Amphitheater, Nationals Park in Washington D.C., the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, and Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
