Little Cottonwood Canyon, Utah- With over 400 inches of snowfall so far this season, another long spring will be happening at Snowbird.

Yesterday, Snowbird Resort announced its spring operations plan. If they aren’t thrown a curveball, Snowbird plans to remain open through Memorial Day. For late April and May, lift and terrain operations will center around Little Cloud.

Two major projects are starting in the spring: the replacement of the Wilbere chairlift with a new fixed-grip quad chairlift and the renovation of the Mid-Gad Restaurant. They’ll close Lower Gad Valley on April 15th to work on these two projects. The new Wilbere chairlift is expected to open for the 2024-25 season, while the new Mid-Gad restaurant has a planned opening during the 2025-26 season.

The bad news from this announcement is that the Woodward and Snowbird partnership isn’t returning for this spring. Last spring, Woodward, who POWDR also owns, collaborated with Snowbird on a terrain park in Mineral Basin. The original plan was for this to return this spring, but they decided to cancel this year’s edition to focus on other projects. Snowbird plans to work with Woodward again during future seasons.

Snowbird To Offer Skiing and Riding Through Memorial Day as Construction Breaks Ground for Resort Improvements

Lower Gad Valley to Close April 15 for Construction; Spring Skiing and Riding to Continue Across the Mountain

Snowbird, Utah, March 6, 2024 – With over 400 inches of snow falling at Snowbird this season so far, including its third snowiest February on record, the Utah resort is poised for exceptional spring skiing and snowboarding conditions. In anticipation, Snowbird announces plans to keep its slopes open through Memorial Day, conditions permitting, offering skiers and snowboarders an unparalleled experience during Snowbird Surf Season. Spring at Snowbird will be accompanied by a robust event lineup, including the annual Plazapalooza music series, taking place every weekend from March 22 – May 19.

As spring approaches, the mountain prepares to start construction on two major projects in Gad Valley, commencing on April 15. This will coincide with the closure of all lower Gad Valley terrain—which historically takes place every April—with Little Cloud chair and terrain remaining open. Construction will include the realignment of and upgrade to Wilbere Chair—turning it into a quad—as well as the highly anticipated update of Mid-Gad Restaurant. Mid-Gad Restaurant will undergo a two-year renovation that will result in a new building featuring a modern single-story floor plan and a new, expansive outdoor deck.

“By announcing that we will be open through Memorial Day so early in March, we hope our guests can experience all that our late season has to offer—from skiing under blue skies to dancing on The Plaza Deck,” said Snowbird President and General Manager, Dave Fields. “We are also eager to begin construction in Gad Valley, breaking ground on two exciting projects that will greatly improve the guest experience for decades to come.”

Last spring, Snowbird and Woodward successfully hosted the first-ever Snowbird x Woodward spring collaboration. While both parties looked forward to the continuation of this collaboration for the 2023-24 season, this project has been put on hold as Snowbird focuses its resources on the success of these exciting resort improvements and Woodward focuses on springtime operations at its Woodward Mountain Centers and Woodward Mountain Park locations across the POWDR portfolio. Snowbird looks forward to the return of this collaboration in future seasons.
