On Friday, January 26, an incident occurred at Palisades Tahoe ski resort in Olympic Valley, California, resulting in the death of an individual reportedly employed by the resort.

The event unfolded when a State Park Peace Officer attempted to stop a vehicle around 10 a.m., suspected of being involved in a carjacking in Tahoe City, located approximately seven miles from Palisades Tahoe. During the ensuing pursuit, the vehicle was involved in a collision near the Olympic Village Inn, situated close to the resort.

Following the crash, 29-year-old Vinton Miller, identified as the vehicle’s occupant, reportedly exited with a knife. In response, the officer discharged his firearm, striking Miller. The shooting occurred in the parking area of the Olympic Village Events Center and Corporate Offices, adjacent to the Olympic Village Inn, as confirmed by a statement from the hotel.

Despite receiving medical attention at the scene, Miller unfortunately passed away due to his injuries. Reports from the Placer County Sheriff’s Office indicate that Miller, a Jamaican national, was in Tahoe on a work visa. The San Francisco Standard noted his employment at Palisades Tahoe resort, although his specific role at the resort remains unspecified.

The authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the incident.
