Mikaela Shiffrin was taken to the hospital from the Olympia delle Tofane in Cortina d’Ampezzo today after colliding with safety netting during her FIS Alpine Ski World Cup downhill run.

The 28-year-old American lost control following a small jump before the Tofanaschuss. She was unable to recover her line and ended up slamming into the netting. After bouncing off the netting, she remained on the ground for a few minutes before eventually sitting up.

Following a significant delay, Shiffrin was observed leaning against the netting while ski patrollers provided assistance. She later stood up with their help but couldn’t put any weight on her left leg. Eventually, a medical helicopter arrived to assist in her evacuation.

This incident marked the second crash of the race within the first seven skiers, with Priska Nufer experiencing a similar mishap at the same corner. Italy’s Laura Pirovano led the race at that time.

It’s worth noting that Mikaela Shiffrin’s boyfriend, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, is currently undergoing rehabilitation after his own serious downhill crash. The U.S. team later shared on social media that Shiffrin had sent a message to her teammates, reassuring them that “it’s all ok.”
