Actor and James Bond star Pierce Brosnan plead not guilty to entering and walking around in a restricted area of Yellowstone National Park, according to the New York Times.

Court documents filed in a Wyoming federal court earlier this month show that Brosnan plead not guilty to two charges, “closure violation – mammoth terraces” and “foot travel in a thermal area”. Charges were initially filed on December 23 relating to an incident that allegedly occurred on November 1.

As reported by the BBC, the actor was meant to appear in person for court on January 23, but a Wyoming judge granted a request cancel the in-person hearing and postpone it to a virtual hearing on February 20.

Brosnan was reportedly filming alongside Samuel L. Jackson around the time of the alleged incident for a western titled “The Unholy Trinity”. Work for the film was occurring at Montana’s Yellowstone Film Ranch.

Visitors of the Mammoth Terraces are required to stay on boardwalks to protect both the guests, as the water can reach high temperatures, and the delicate springs. Guests who leave the boardwalks can be punished with fines up to $5,000 and six months of jail time.

Obviously Pierce Brosnan is an immensely popular individual (I’m personally a fan of his role in the incredible musical film Mamma Mia!, but that’s just me). He was in four Bond movies, each of which are highly regarded, and has been in plenty of other movies and television shows.

If he winds up guilty, though, I don’t think he should get a pass just because of who he is. I truly believe very few are cool enough that they should get to walk unrestricted on the delicate landscapes of Yellowstone. Only the scientists, who actually know what they’re doing, are cool enough to do that.
