Have you ever wondered what happens when a snowboarder tries to shred at Alta?

This video from Redditor u/plastikman13 gives you a general idea of how the situation goes down. In the video, the snowboarder waits to board presumably the Sunnyside chairlift. When the Alta employee notices, he lets the boarder know that he can’t ride the lifts at Alta. Not sure if this guy was oblivious to the rule or if he was trying to force the situation, but it’s pretty funny regardless.

Alta is one of three ski areas in the U.S. to ban snowboarders from riding the lifts. My take on Alta is that their no-snowboarder rule is pretty reasonable. This is because of the numerous tricky traverses that are spread throughout the ski area. Some people think that Alta stands for Another Long Traverse Ahead. These traverses, especially to reach the best runs like Alf’s High Rustler, are tricky even for skiers. Traverses and snowboarders don’t get along, so I believe keeping them banned from Alta is a wise move.

Do you know what place should allow snowboarders? Deer Valley, especially with their expansion coming soon. Their logic for the snowboarder ban comes off as a bit more flimsy to me.
