Tragic news out of Iran where an avalanche killed five climbers and injured four others from an all-Iranian climbing team in west Iran.

ABC News reports rescue teams recovered the bodies of five climbers from San Boran peak located about 186 miles southwest of the capital Tehran. The other four injured were taken to a hospital.

The team set out for the their climb on Thursday despite warnings by local authorities about possible risk due to extreme weather. The peak (the highest of the Oshtrankooh mountain range at about 13,600 feet) had experienced heavy rain and snow in recent weeks.

The Iranian Red Crescent posted a video of the slide and rescue efforts to their social media. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victims.
